Dog friendly products we tried and tested in August

We love trying out and learning about new products for Patch.

And in August it was his birthday – he is the grand old age of four.

So we thought we would talk about some of his birthday pressies and a couple of treats I had as well.

This review is for a Scruffy Little Terrier Birthday Boy Bandana, a Moo Moo and Bear lead, collar, bandana and bow tie set, an Eat, Sleep, Walkies, Repeat T shirt and a candle from The Pet Friendly Candle company

Birthday Boy Bandana

This is a navy, cotton bandana that ties around your dog’s neck rather than fits on a collar so it’s easy to take on and off.

We went for the small and it was a generous fitting. The bandana has white stars and ‘Birthday Boy’ in the corner.

You fold the longer end of the triangle round a few times to fit.

I loved the stars pattern and the loose fit and also the soft, cotton material that wasn’t too stiff.

Patch wore his at a birthday BBQ we had with some friends and was in and out of the paddling pool in it, but the material dries quickly.

It’s a lovely durable accessory and he looked super cute. Patch also sent one to his brother George!

There’s a matching one in pink if you have a female dog, plus other designs for ‘Party animal’ and ‘Cute but psycho!’ which I saw on a chihuahua recently.

Superdog collar, lead, bandana and bow tie

All dogs are superdogs right? And how ace is this set from Moo Moo and Bear?

Patch wears stripes for every day and he has a few sets for best but for his birthday this year I wanted sometime different.

Nadia from Moo Moo and Bear is in my Facebook group for pet businesses and also in a Furdography course group I’ve been taking part in with Kerry from Fur and Fables.

I kept seeing lovely photos of her two min Schnauzers Moo Moo and Bear in gorgeous accessories and went to check out her website.

The Superdog set in grey is so cool and so Patch – he is such a handsome boy and I love the colours in it.

The feel and quality of all the items is really impressive. We went for the small/medium set and the collar isn’t too wide and comes with plastic fastenings which I prefer for safety.

The lead has velvet on the inside of the handle which feels great and the bandana is a nice size – some can look a bit big I find.

And Nadia very kindly gifted us a bow tie – she said: “I couldn’t not have the gorgeous little man without the full set!”

How dapper does he look? Definitely check out Nadia’s site as she has so many beautiful prints whether your dog is cute and girly or woof and tumble.

Patch wears a small/medium and he’s a Parsons Jack Russell/Border/Jack Russell Terrier and is quite tall, but if you’re stuck on size, message Nadia and she will advise.

Pet Friendly Candle

Last year a report came out which revealed that many candles can be harmful to pets and that’s what inspired Daniel Banks to set up the Pet Friendly Candle Company.

Much as we love our dogs, they can be a bit stinky, and this is a way of freshening up your home with all-natural ingredients that are pet safe.

Daniel contacted me on Instagram to see if I would like to try his pet friendly candle and wax melt and kindly gifted them.

He explained that with traditional candles, there are certain elements such as metal in the bottom of a wick that create more soot and this can mean our pets are breathing in air that can irritate them.

Plus many fragrances and essential oils can be dangerous to pets, particularly if they touch their skin.

So Daniel, who is dog dad to Buddy_thecocka on Instagram, went on a mission to make his own with ingredients that are kind to pets.

The Pet Friendly Candle Company uses a blend of soy wax and essential oils and I chose the White Tea and Pear fragrance.

The smell is lovely and fresh but not overbearing and the candle has a cotton wick and a bamboo lid – I don’t know about you but I love a candle with a lid on.

I found it was stylishly presented and nicely packaged. The 30cl candle burns for 40 hours and is very reasonably priced at £14.

To get the most from your candle, trim the wick after each use, only burn for up to two hours at a time and always supervise your pet round candles.

And once the candle is finished, you can clean it out and use as a treat jar!

Eat, Sleep, Walkies, Repeat T shirt

I love this t shirt – it is such a fab slogan – this is my life and I also have the matching sweater.

Even more so since lockdown I spend my life in activewear and this t shirt is great with leggings – it covers your bum.

But you can also wear it with jeans and sandals and tuck it in to look dressier. I absolutely love it and have barely had it off.

The sweatshirt is great too, nice soft material and not too thick, and, as my mother would say, washes well.

The t shirts and sweaters come in two sizes, you can go for the ladies one or for unisex.

The unisex ones are more generous – I went for the medium and I’m a 10-12 and it wasn’t too fitted – ideal to hide the lockdown lbs!

Michelle is a friend who I met when I started the blog and we bonded over our terriers. Her girl Sandy looks just like my late dog Daisy.
